The attention of the Management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous agents operating within our franchise on the sale and installation of the defunct Unistar Prepaid meters. The Management therefore wishes to state the following facts categorically:
1. IBEDC stopped the sales of the Unsitar meters to customers since 2014 in compliance with the directive of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). To this end, any customer who purchased the Unistar meter after 2014, did not buy from IBEDC, neither do such customers pay for electricity used on those meters to IBEDC whenever they vend.
The management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Plc says it has secured N4.2billion from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to improve power supply to its numerous customers in Ogun State.
Disclosing this at a stakeholders’ meeting with the representatives of communities on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, the IBEDC’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mr John Ayodele, an engineer, assured the determination of the company to improve electricity supply in the areas.

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), has appealed to billboard owners and outdoor advertising agencies in Oyo State to always respect the right of way for powerlines to prevent an emergency in the case of electrocution.

The operatives of the police in Osun on Thursday dragged a medical doctor and his staff before a Magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital for allegedly stealing a digital meter belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
The accused persons, Olajumoke Tokunbo (46) and Oyinlola Oluwatosin (26), were said to have committed the crime on January 27 and March 9, 2021 at Ogo-oluwa area, Osogbo, Osun State.
The Federal Government has introduced a meter rollout scheme under the National Mass Metering Program (NMMP) as part of effort to further bridge the country’s metering gap and also cushion the effect of the Service Reflective Tariff on electricity consumers in Nigeria. Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) will commence the rollout of free meters to customers under NMMP by the third week of November,2020.
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) said it has begun the implementation of the revised service-based reflective tariff as approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The IBEDC ACE enumeration exercise is the technical audit of our assets and the data capturing of existing and prospective customers. It also involves the identification of developed, undeveloped and vacant properties within our franchise. The pilot exercise will commence in Ibadan- Elebu area over the span of 3 months, June- August 2017. IBEDC has acquired the services of Exernegia -Geotechnics consortium who are charged with the task of carrying out this exercise across the franchise. The enumerators will constitute indigenes from the local communities trained efficiently for the exercise. These enumerators will work in conjunction with IBEDC officials who will serve as supervisors and project coordinators for their respective Business Hubs.

Magboro, for now, is fed by an ancient lengthy power line from Abeokuta Transmission Station. Due to much urban expansion and developments over the years, the line got overloaded. This made the line's power qualities to dwindle as it could not match up with the expansion rate. The customers at the tail end of the line often have complaints.

The Management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, (IBEDC) has decried the recent attack meted out on her staff in Esa-Oke, Osun state by the youths of the community due to a recent power outage by Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Oshogbo. The outage was as a result of the routine maintenance of their 132KVA line from Saturday, August 20th to Sunday August 21st, 2016 and supply was restored at about 9am on Tuesday, 23rd August, 2016. The exercise is necessary for quality and safe wheeling of energy as indicated by TCN.
According to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) bench marking and ranking of DISCOS for the 2nd quarter of 2016, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has moved from the 4th position it occupied in the first quarter of 2016 to the number one position. On the 23rd of June 2016, IBEDC hosted the South African Revenue Protection Agency (SARPA) in a knowledge sharing meeting on revenue protection strategies. SARPA was founded in 1997 with the aim to promote exchange of information and finding solutions to the protection of income and assets among utility companies. This year’s edition focused on some of these emerging issues plaguing the electricity distribution business.

A delegation from the company held a meeting with the New Bussa community on the 18th of October 2015 aimed at resolving lingering issues that have continued to exist between the IBEDC and the region. Concurrent with Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) Guidelines for Tariff Consultation by DISCOs, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) hereby wishes to inform all of her customers and stakeholders in Ogun, Oyo, Kwara and Osun States; parts of Ekiti, Kogi and Niger States, of its intention to carry out a review of the electricity tariff.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) commended IBEDC on delivering on its mandate in the area of improving distribution service to its customers. The chairman of NERC’s Ibadan Forum, Dr. Babajide Taiwo, applauded the company for a cordial relationship with its customers at the Customers’ Forum event. Responding, the Managing Director, Engr. Fortunato Leynes, reiterated that the company would continue to provide stable electricity supply and quality services to customers in its franchise areas.
IBEDC in the spirit of giving during the festive period decided to show generosity and kindness towards a good cause in her community. IBEDC made a cash donation to Ring Road State Hospital to support their annual Christmas celebration for the hospital’s in- patients. Ehi Obaseki, Acting Head, Human Resources was on hand to present the cash donation to the Hospital’s representative.
As part of the celebration of its first year anniversary, IBEDC distributed transformers to needy communities across its franchise areas in an initiative called “Powering dreams in a hundred communities”. This was flagged off by the commissioning of a 500 kVA transformer at Sharp Corner, Oke Ado, Ibadan.
The Managing Director, Engr. Fortunato Leynes, said “IBEDC is a focused and customer-friendly institution, satisfying its customers is the fulcrum of our distribution, marketing and billing operations. We believe that our satisfied customers automatically become our active brand ambassadors. We are determined to constantly raise the benchmark for our performance to meet our customers and increasing public expectations”.
The Chairman Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Dr Sam Amadi, on the 3rd December, 2014 announced that the commission has approved an upward review of Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO) 2.1 regime. The new increase in tariff for all customers takes effect on the 1st of January, 2015 except Residential R2 customers, which will take effect on 1st of July, 2015.
Following the proposed rehabilitation of the Waterside Barrack 33KV feeder in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. IBEDC is set to provide power to 26 communities in Ijebuland. A donation was made to the company by Honorable Dapo Abiodun to support the rehabilitation of the 33KV feeder. The Company Secretary, Ms Bolanle Onagoruwa explained that with the donation of 50 percent of the total contract sum needed for this project by an illustrious son, the project would be completed within a 30 day execution period.
The Osogbo Business Hub Manager, Mr. Babatunde Bewaji, his team of Technicians, Marketers and in collaboration with the Nigerian Police apprehended Ideal Nest Hotel in Osogbo, Osun State for Energy Theft. This operation was triggered by a tip off made to the Business Hub Manager about the criminal activity of the said hotel. The Head of the Marketing Department, Noel R. Valeza made this remark, “This is the new dispensation, and all energy thieves shall be apprehended and brought to order. The commensurate punishment shall include payment of lost revenue accrued over time by perpetrators”. The management salutes and applauds the Business Hub Manager and his team whilst encouraging other Business Hub Managers to toe this path to ensure we recover all revenue being lost.
Hope was restored for the communities in Ona-Ara and their environs when the 2x15mva, 33/11 kva substation at Akanran, Olorunsogo along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was commissioned by IBEDC. The two substation transformers were hitherto damaged during the national fuel hike protests by some misguided, irate youths numbering about three thousands some three years ago.
The quest to keep established platforms for effective interfaces with the customers was taken to another level with the hosting of another customers forum in Abeokuta. Speaking extensively, Engr, Fortunato Leynes, the MD/CEO, disclosed that series of upgrading operations, fault detection and clearing, staff restructuring amongst others are on-going to ensure mutually-beneficial solutions to power distribution and payment.
It is with delight that I on behalf of IBEDC welcome you to this August meeting, the pre- event press conference for the celebration of our one year anniversary and in fact ,the takeover of the Electricity Distribution business in Nigeria. It is indeed like a dream that we are here today to chronicle our story thus far, which has some major milestone achievements and to throw some light on the happenings in the budding company. From a humble beginning and having trudged on despite the avalanche of challenges. We are elated about our present records within this period of one year.

The e-billing scheme called Bills on Demand (BOD) is in continuation of IBEDC ’s desire to leverage innovation and technology to improve customer experience. It is designed to deliver bills on request directly to the customer, thereby eradicating challenges such as misplaced bills or delayed delivery and other issues which are associated with distribution of physical bills.
