ibedc news IBEDC Reaffirms Commitment To National Development

The Management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) wishes to address recent reports regarding an incident that occurred around 12:00 noon on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, in front of the WAEC office in Ijokodo, Ibadan, Oyo State.

An artisan engaged by a third-party contractor experienced a brief electric shock while reportedly working on the Ijokodo 11kV feeder. Preliminary investigations confirm that the individual is not a staff of IBEDC but was working with a contractor. The incident involved unintended contact with the electric field of adjacent high-voltage line.

We wish to clearly state that contrary to some public speculation, this was not a case of fatal electrocution. The affected individual received immediate medical attention, was treated, discharged on the same day, and is currently in good health.

IBEDC emphasizes that all electrical installations within our network are hazardous and must only be accessed by properly trained and authorized personnel. We urge all contractors and members of the public to strictly observe safety protocols when operating near electrical infrastructure.

The safety of lives and property remains a core priority for IBEDC. We remain committed to public education and proactive engagement to prevent similar incidents in the future.
